Langgaard's oeuvre in figures and charts

Rued Langgaard's productivity in terms of song (voice and piano)

The diagram shows Langgaard's production of songs in blocks of five years.

As a young man, Langgaard was prolific composer of songs. Langgaard did not compose popular songs, and in terms of style his compositions are directly linked to the German Lieder tradition from Schubert to Richard Strauss. Moreover, his songs were often written to German texts, by Heine and Eichendorff, for example. In 1918, however, the then 25-year-old composer stopped writing songs. All he ever contributed to this genre after this date were a few spiritual songs and a single song cycle from 1947-48.
