Art and the sun

Rued Langgaard's special relationship to the light of the sun as a symbol of that divine light from which he drew his inspiration can be seen from a cartoon which he cut out of a newspaper, and on which he wrote his personal comments. The creative process (pictures 1-3) takes place in "the light of the sun", but in the end the composer has his music returned to him - in this case from the State Broadcasting Company (Danmarks Radio).

"Solrædsel" (Sun Nightmare) (picture 4), is one of the titles of Symphony No. 11.
In another note, written at about the same time, Langgaard wrote: "I love Light! My Symphony No. 11 is called 'Solàmok'" (Sun Gone Amok)
